Some people believe that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. I don’t think those people know what they are talking about. Today Christmas arrives early for sports fans with the return of football. For the next five months, we can all bask in the glory that the little brown spheroid brings us.

I am anxiously looking forward to gambling, Chris Berman delivering his annual 49ers vs. Bills Super Bowl prediction, Lee Corso donning a mascot head every week, Gus Johnson’s big-play orgasms, Brent Musburger calling out “you are looking live,” funny College Gameday signs, the Browns winning the AFC North, the Steelers finishing last in the division, fantasy football leagues, and did I mention gambling?

Every week I planning on producing a weekly stats article for stat nerds that will help to provide some interesting facts regarding the big sporting events of the week. This week, with the return of college football, here are some record performances that are kind of difficult to believe.

1. Alabama is seeking to win their 3rd straight National Title which has not been done since Minnesota won 3 straight from 1934-1936.

2. Ohio St. could break their own consecutive game unbeaten streak if they start off 11-0, which will break their old record of 22 straight victories.

3. Current Houston Cougar QB David Piland holds the record for most pass attempts in a single game (77) without throwing an interception. It was against Louisiana Tech in 2012.

4. Future NFL Hall-of-Famer LaDainian Tomlinson holds the record for most rushing yards in a single game with 406 in TCU’s 52-24 win over UTEP in 1999.
