Long Live Chicago Cubs Fans Rocking Random Jerseys

By July 25, 2012June 18th, 2018No Comments

Chicago Cubs fans have a reputation of being more interested in partying than actually caring what is going on during the game. Can you really blame them though? I was in Wrigley last week and came across three people that I felt were worth commenting on.

Matt Ryan Falcons jersey

I really have no clue what is going on here. Why someone would be rocking a Matt Ryan Atlanta Falcons jersey to a Cubs vs Marlins game I have no clue. To further add insult to injury this guy also has his jersey tucked into his khaki shorts. Who does he think he is, Mike Wilbon? As someone who wears random jerseys from time to time I’m as open as they come but come on, there has to be a line drawn somewhere. Had the Cubs been playing the Atlanta Braves I would have given this guy a pass but that was not the case. This is completely unacceptable and the only way he could have saved some face was if he was wearing a Brian Jordan or Andre Rison Falcons jersey. Then I might have let it slide.

Darryl Ward Cubs Jersey

When a baseball fan wears a jersey of a crappy player it is funny for about a second and then the overwhelming stench of poor performance sinks in. For some reason I don’t feel the same with NBA jerseys. I think it’s because good random NBA jerseys are of high draft picks that ended up being huge busts (ex. Darius Miles, the Candy Man, Harold Miner). Therefore the players are more known and higher profile and it makes it more awesome. With the case of this authentic Daryle Ward Chicago Cubs jersey I got a good chuckle at first and then the crappiness of the jersey set in. At no point in his 11 year career was Daryle Ward good enough for someone to purchase his jersey. His best season was in 2000 with the Houston Astros where he hit .258 with 20 HR and 58 RBI’s. By no means are those “drop $100+ on a jersey” numbers or even “drop $20 on a tshirt jersey” numbers. As for his time with the Cubs, he was “serviceable”. He only played two years there, never had more than 133 plate appearances in a season, and hit a grand total of 7 HR’s and 36 RBI’s. That stench that you smell isn’t just the Cubs record this year, it’s also this Daryle Ward jersey.

Chet Steadman Cubs Jersey

Walk off jersey! Anything that I say from this point forward won’t do justice on how awesome this Chet Steadman Chicago Cubs jersey is. When someone brings up “Rookie of the Year” Henry Rowengartner is usually the first person that is mentioned. However, true fans of the movie know that Chet “the Rocket” Steadman is the real star of this movie (played by Gary Busey).

To get the true awesomeness of Chet Steadman you should watch this video about him and Salsbury Steaks which has a cameo from the Highway to the Danger Zone music from Top Gun.
