In 1991, some executive at Leaf, Inc. thought it would be a brilliant idea to combine baseball cards with Glamour Shots, and boy were they right! The first Studio set was unlike any baseball card set that came before it, featuring black and white studio close-ups of MLB players. This set produced many Terribly Awesome gems, including this Doug Drabek card.
We call this look Mullet Chic in the high fashion world. Doug gives the over-the-shoulder-look-back pose while projecting a steely glare at the camera. Enough to make any female’s panties drop, and some male’s too. And I’ve yet to even mention his perfectly manscaped mouth brow.
This card reminds me, I’m doing market research on a fragrance I’m pitching. Is it just me, or would others out there love to douse themselves in the scent of Doug Drabek? “Moustaches, Mullets, Masculinity. Drabek 15 Cologne.”
