handzus-mulletYesterday the Chicago Blackhawks traded for San Jose Sharks Center Michal Handzus, who once possessed one of the greatest mullets in hockey history.  In honor of Michal Handzus’s once proud mullet, let’s take a look at some other great hockey mullets.

JAROMIR JAGR –DALLAS STARS

Though Jagr is still kicking around the NHL with the Dallas Stars, he retired his mullet long ago. I’m sure at the time of this photo, he was often mistaken for an East German gymnast or the lead singer of Queensryche.

DEREK SUTTON – HAMILTON MUSTANGS

Long before he portrayed other iconic mullet-blessed characters (i.e. Dalton from Roadhouse or Bohdi from Point Break), Patrick Swayze graced the silver screen as Derek Sutton, mullet-sporting captain of the Hamilton Mustangs in Youngblood along with Rob Lowe and a very topless Cynthia Gibb.

PATRICK KANE – CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

Who can forget the throwback mullet Patrick Kane grew out during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs? The icing on the cake was the lines shaved into the side of his head.  It’s as if he cloned my prom picture.

JOHN BIEBE – MYSTERY, ALASKA

Russell-Crowe-mullet

Russell Crowe dons an outback mullet as the captain of the amateur team in Mystery, Alaska. I’m not sure what’s more ridiculous; that there’s an NHL caliber team living anonymously in small town Alaska or that they made Crowe’s character wear a Jofa helmet.

AL IAFRATE –WASHINGTON CAPITALS

What’s a “skullet” you say? Take a peek at Al Iafrate back in the 1993 All-Star Game. There’s a certain unspoken respect that you must have for a guy who has the balls to sport this haircut. It almost makes me want to go bald now.
