tall-average-white-nba-playersEarlier this week  John Koncak was our Terribly Awesome Card of the day. It got me thinking about all the tall, average, white NBA players that many of us have loved over the years. They are the guys that are just there. Not much is expected out of them other than to be tall, fill space, and use up their fouls. I hit up social media to see who some of your favorite tall, average, white NBA players were and apparently this topic is near and dear to your heart because I got a ton of responses. Here’s the best of the best.

In order to best compare each of the tall, average, white NBA players I came up with a system to show you what you should really care about with these guys: how well they shoot free throws  (they are likely to get hacked a lot and sent to the line, plus I love shooting free throws. I shoot hoops on the regular and don’t leave the gym until I make 10 in a row. Really.), career games, career earnings, points, rebounds, blocks, turnovers, three point shooting (who wouldn’t want to know how many they’ve made from way downtown), and where they were drafted.

Shawn Bradley – 71.6 FT%, 832 games, $69.5 million, 8.1 ppg, 6.3 boards, 2.5 blocks, 1.3 turnovers, 4-39 3 pt range (.103%), 1st round (2nd pick), 1993 NBA Draft. Once involved in a trade including Ed O’Bannon, Khalid Reeves, and Eric Montross.

Dwayne Schintzius – 63.8 FT%, 217 games, $5.49 million, 2.7 ppg, 2.5 boards, 0.5 blocks, 0.5 turnovers, 1-8 from 3 pt range (.125%), 1st round (27th pick), 1990 NBA Draft.

paul-mokeski-nba-hoops-card

Paul Mokeski – 69.4 FT%, 694 games, $1.19 million, 4.0 ppg, 3.4 boards, 0.4 blocks, 0.8 turnovers, 11-51 from 3 pt range (.216%), 2nd round (20th pick, 47 overall), 1979 NBA Draft.

Big Country Reeves – 70.3 FT%, 395 games, $55.6 million, 12.5 ppg, 6.9 rb, 0.8 blocks, 1.9 turnovers, 2-27 from 3 pt range (.074%), 1st round (6th pick), 1995 NBA Draft.

jon-koncak-hawks-skybox-card

Jon Koncak – 59.7 FT%, 784 games, $15.4 million, 4.5 ppg, 4.9 boards, 1.0 blocks, 0.8 TO, 19-84 from 3 pt range (.226%), 1st round (5th pick), 1985 NBA Draft. His nickname was Jon Contract because at one point in his career his contract was higher than Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson’s and it absolutely crippled the Hawks.

greg-kite-fleer-card

Greg Kite – 48.6 FT%, 680 games, $4.73 million, 3.5 ppg, 2.5 boards, 0.6 blocks, 0.8 TO, 1-6 from 3 pt range (.167%), 1st round (21st pick), 1983 NBA Draft.

chris-dudley-fleer-ultra-card

Chris Dudley – 45.8 FT%, 886 games, $38.3 million, 3.9 ppg, 6.2 boards, 1.2 blocks, 0.8 TO, 0-5 from 3 pt range (0%), 4th round (6th pick, 75th overall), 1987 NBA Draft. Once traded from the Suns with Jason Kidd to the Nets for Stephon Marbury and some scrubs.

joe-kleine-skybox-card

Joe Kleine –  79.4 FT%, 965 games, $11.4 million, 4.8 ppg, 4.1 boards, 0.3 blocks, 0.8 turnovers, 13-48 3 pt range (.271%). 1st round (6th pick), 1985 NBA Draft. Traded from the Trail Blazers with Jermaine O’Neal to the Pacers for Dale Davis.

mike-gminski-fleer-ultra-card

Mike Gminski (he’s too good to be on the list but made it because I really liked his name) – 84.3 FT%, 938 games, $9.8 million, 11.7 ppg, 6.9 boards, 1.1 blocks, 1.5 turnovers, 6-49 from 3 pt range (.122%), 1st round (7th pick), 1980 NBA Draft.

dave-corzine-sonics-card

Dave Corzine – 74.7 FT%, 891 games, $2.5 million, 8.5 ppg, 5.9 boards, 1.0 blocks, 1.5 turnovers, 10-53 from 3 pt range (.189%), 1st round (18th pick), 1978 NBA Draft.

Others receiving votes (this does not make them any less tall, average, and white. They are all great choices): Brad Lohaus, Greg Ostertag, Nick Collison, Luke Harangody, Danny Schayes, Cherokee Parks, Scot Pollard, Bill Wennington, Joe Wolf, Todd MacCulloch, Luc Longley, Josh Harrellson, any Plumlee, Jim McIlvaine, Jeff Ruland, Chris Mihm, Joel Pryzbyla.

Some of you might be outraged that Brian Scalabrine didn’t make the list. The White Mamba is only 6’9″ and I didn’t think that was tall enough to be considered a tall, average, white NBA players. He’s just an average, white NBA player, which would be a different list. Kurt Rambis was only 6’8″, Mark Madsen was 6’9″, so they didn’t make the cut either.
