USA World Cup fever in Chicago is higher than Ricky Williams right now. Like we did for the opening match vs Ghana, LTS Chicago threw a USA World Cup Watch Party at Benchmark and we were on hand to promote the Bacon, Sports & Beer Celebration plus capture the awesomeness that went down. As expected, Chicago sports fans and supporters of the USMNT came hard in the paint as the place was packed and the crowd was bursting with red, white, and blue goodness.
Before I get to the rally, march, and awesomeness from the day, I’ll fast forward to the reactions of the bar after USA scored both of their goals vs Portugal.
After being down 1-0 everyone was clearly on edge, but once that first USA goal went in everyone was going crazy. After the second goal it was a good thing that Benchmark has a retractable roof because everyone would have blown the lid off the place.
Now back to the beginning. Time for the rally and World Cup Sunday Funday!
We all met at the Franklin Fine Arts Center and then marched our way down Wells St to Benchmark. Mark Biery from LTS Chicago was our fearless leader and lead us all in numerous I Believe! chants as well as the National Anthem. This got the party started and everyone pumped for what would be a fantastic day.
Earlier in the day I asked someone what the most random jersey at the watch party would be. Little did I know that it would be a Sean Taylor Pro Bowl jersey. No doubt he’s rocking this jersey because of this bone crushing hit that Sean Taylor put on the Bills punter in the Pro Bowl.
That’s an old school Denver Nuggets tattoo. Alex English approves!
Kudos to LTS Chicago for all they good they do for Chicago charities. Amazing job!
Soon to be Mrs Bacon and yours truly. Since I had already rocked my Team USA Mitch Richmond Olympic jersey vs Ghana I had an easy decision for what to wear. It doesn’t get any more American than Hulk Hogan…brother!
Our new friends from Urban Initiatives were once again on hand bringing the fun.
Scottie and Shaq were the only two Dream Team jerseys of the day. Well done gents! You deserve an ass grab.
These two guys were a trip. They had a front row seat for the next pic…
This dude was getting after it.
Digging the hats.
G-Hunt getting after it for the TV cameras.
After the USA match vs Ghana the last person I saw was rocking a Nick Swisher Yankees jersey. This time the last person I saw on my way home was rocking a blue and gold Dream Team Larry Bird jersey. Amazeballs!
We’ll be doing this again on Thursday at Benchmark to cheer on USA vs Germany in what will hopefully have be a clinching game for the USMNT. Get your tickets now before they sell out!
