Need proof of why MLB should get rid of pitchers hitting and implement the DH for both leagues? Take a look at Giants Pitcher Santiago Castilla’s putrid attempt at hitting in a game earlier this week vs the Brewers (jump to the 1:02 mark).
That was pretty horrible…but despite looking completely inept at the plate I’m slightly impressed that Casilla fouled a ball off. I also give him props for swinging for the fences (ala Jeremy Burnitz). In the event that he got lucky and got good wood on the ball there’s no doubt that would have been a dinger.
