Terribly Awesome Baseball Card: Tom Henke

By August 13, 2014June 18th, 2018No Comments

The design of this awesome 1988 Topps All-Star Tom Henke card reminds me of the floating head effect in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, and Tom Henke could definitely pass for a creepy Hitchcock character.

Though he may look like one part Norman Bates and two parts Revenge of the Nerds extra, Henke gets his nickname from another movie. His 311 career saves and his 6’5” frame earned him the nickname “The Terminator.” Henke mowed down batters with a strikeout rate 9.8 K’s per 9 innings while sporting the same glasses Michael Douglas wore on the set of Falling Down. Henke even helped Toronto to its first World Series championship in 1992.
